Morelli and Melvin, the US design team for the Kiwi's Emirates/TNZ challenge, won the international jury ruling regarding the displacement of the dagger boards.

The rule was written so the dagger boards would count towards the boats overall displacement but the wording left a loophole and Morelli and Melvin saw it and took advantage of it. The Measurement Committee ruled against them but the International Jury ruled for them.

It explains why the Kiwi boat was foiling so much better (larger foils on the daggerboards) vs. the US OR17 which had smaller dagger board foils that broke.
